Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get help even if my loved one won't seek treatment?
Yes. Very often, an addict’s journey toward restoration begins with spouses or other family members first seeking help coping with their addiction.
What is the difference between supporting a loved one and enabling their addiction?
In a single word: Truth. Supporting an addict’s journey necessarily involves honesty about the impact their behavior is having on his or her loved ones. Enablers seek to avoid those hard truths.
Can families heal even if the addicted person never gets sober?
Complete family healing may be impossible under those circumstances. At the same time, we can help you develop techniques for coping with a perpetually-addicted family member. Techniques which may include physical separation from your loved one.
Is it selfish to focus on my own healing when my loved one is still using?
No. After all, how can you be truly effective in supporting your addicted loved one without some measure of the inner strength that comes with personal healing?
What does recovery look like for family members of addicts?
Recovery for family members often looks like restored peace, healthier relationships, and a clearer sense of self — independent of whether your loved one achieves sobriety. Many of our clients describe it as reclaiming their own life.
How do I know if I need counseling, or if I just need more information?
Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to that question. That said, you are more than welcome to seek more information from us before seeking our counseling services. We’re here to help.
Is this the same as Al-Anon or a 12-step program?
No. Unbound Grace is a licensed, faith-based counseling practice offering personalized one-on-one sessions — not an arbitrary12-step model. Our goal is complete restoration, not just sobriety.
Do you offer virtual or telehealth sessions?
Yes. However, we do recommend in-person counseling sessions whenever possible.
